Source: 10 Much Needed Improvements in WWE 2K’s Next Game

The wrestling game of WWE 2K20 was not exactly a hit, and therefore to balance the issues in the future, the game’s developers have announced a spin-off title in WWE 2K Battlegrounds. However, that game isn’t part of the main series, which will get a new release sometime in the future. Still, a bit far away, there is a lot of room for improvement, and on the positive side, the developers have a lot of things to pick up from, and it makes sense to consider the improvements and additions that will make the next main entry worthy of purchase. So here are some points of improvement that the game absolutely needs for the fans to be re-invested in the series.

Manager M

ode

Being a classic, the inclusion of the general manager mode is absolutely necessary for the new game as WWE fans nowadays consider themselves just as invested with the branding and other management-related issues just as much as the wrestling. This is more relevant now since there are three brands in question, with Survivor Series having it as its main theme. Under the GM mode, players can have the PPV as their last stop, where the whole year’s brand rivalry comes to ahead.

A Revamped 24/7 Mode

The new idea of the 24/7 mode in the previous game was actually a really good idea. This new mode invested in the player is not only just the fights but also the background and everything else that takes to lead up to the fight. Here, players were meant to live life as a WWE Superstar, which sounds great on paper. The only issue with it is that it needs to be made more vibrant for the new issue. This can be in the form of placing the player in stuff like Promo classes, creating the characters behind their wrestler, and fun side missions like training for a WWE debut. There is always a lot going on behind the curtain, and this is a good way to introduce players to it.

Falls Count Anywhere

Believe it or not, this was a thing in the previous Smackdown! Games. And it was a big hit all in all. Implementing this in a potentially ninth-generation WWE game can have many possibilities. Taking the action off the ring and into dressing rooms or the streets might be a game-changer. The current Falls Count Anywhere option is basically the same gameplay only with pinning the opponent on the ground. Increasing these bounds and letting the players freedom of running around fighting where they please will make the experience a much more genuine one.

Choice of Commentators

Always a big issue in some sports games like these is the continuous rattling of the commentators and with the same dialogues over and over again. Although with time, new dialogues have been added and things have gotten a bit less stagnant, but still there are commentators that do it better or sound better than the other. Giving the player the choice of the selection of the commentator he or she wants to listen to while playing will put a personal touch and increase the gameplay value all in all.

Graphics Update

Although this might seem like a common request or a really simple one at the end of the day, players familiar with the WWE games will understand that this is something that the franchise does an awful job at.  Seriously, the graphics of the recent entries look even worse than some PS2 games at various points. The graphics of any 2k WWE game is not up to standards, nor does it feel like anywhere near the current generation graphics standards. With the next seemingly up for release on ninth-generation consoles, it’s high time they look the part. The franchise can take ideas from the various other sports games which manage to make the players look like real humans.

Road to WrestleMania Mode

The campaign modes of WWE have always lacked direction and have been all over the place. Even before 2k took over the franchise, there hasn’t been one set narrative for players to follow for years. One of the high points of these modes has been the Road to WrestleMania Mode. Under these stories, players got fresh angles they hadn’t seen before. Unlike later games that just regurgitated real-life feuds, the Road to WrestleMania should return with multiple intertwining stories to make the actual end at WrestleMania feel special.

Ability to Fight Inside the Crowd

Fighting in the crowd was there in the game, but it was just a gimmick, a one and done thing. Fighting in the crowd was done before by the previous games of the franchise, although limited, the sequences were pretty fun. Bringing this back and turning it up another notch will surely get the players invested more. To make it more appealing, players should be able to fight in the crowds more often, and not only will it make fights like Falls Count Anywhere mean something, but it would also provide justification for the audience to be there. And for a change, it will also give the developers a reason to make the people in the crowd look real for once.

Create-A-Wrestler Mode

Creating your own wrestler was a highlight of the series, and this was one of the main attractions of the franchise. But things have changed drastically since the good days. From modifying a wrestler then to creating your own species now, Gamers love changing character appearances, but there’s just far too much for one to consider here, ranging from forehead sizes to eye colors. This gives a feeling of being a try-hard, and it’s really unnecessary. To this end, it’s better if the hundreds of choices are reduced to reflect quality over quantity. Superstar costumes are an area that needs more focus, while facial features, among others, have to be toned down.

Sequence of Moves

Being a wrestling game, the actual fighting of the game has been really stagnant and generic for a long time now. All the matches have the same moves, and the variety is a bit limited. It’s usually players relying on pretty much the same grapple, after which they throw a punch or two. In order to make it resemble a legit wrestling match, an interesting concept can be to hold a move and execute another. For instance, a grapple can be initiated, but the player can throw in kicks and punches during it. This won’t end the move; instead, the player can then finish the grapple. This will definitely bring in the variety back into the games while making it feel more genuine.

Players’ Suite

This mode can exist within the 24/7 mode, or it can be its own. In this suite, players can be given the option to revisit their favorite matches, alter scenarios within story mode, and check out their statistics. Adding to that, it could be customized the way the person wants it to; thereby resemble an apartment or a wrestler’s locker room.
